Our project envisions the Miami River as a dynamic interface between urban life and nature, transforming a site in Brickell into a sustainable sanctuary for knowledge and community. This architectural intervention weaves local history and ecology into a contemporary design, integrating hanging gardens, shaded reading areas, and plant exchange programs to create a multi-sensory experience. The spatial arrangement fosters both solitude and interaction, with pathways and thresholds that frame the site’s connection to the river while softening the city’s noise. Accessible by foot, bike, and transit, the design embodies a forward-thinking approach to sustainable urbanism and community engagement.
Proposal | Student Team Work | 2024
“As we wandered through Brickell, drawn toward the water, we stumbled upon a sanctuary; a hidden retreat within the city’s rhythm. The shift was tangible: the hum of the city softened, replaced by a tranquil quiet. It was here, where a local resident biked along the Miami River to read in peace, that we knew we had found our site—a place secluded yet profoundly connected to the neighborhood.”
