I was asked to design and develop a patio-courtyard style house on a sloped 75’x125’ site in Miami for acclaimed artist Doris Salcedo.

In generating concepts for the projects architectural form, I challenged preconceived notions, reconsidered basic elements, explored alternative space-planning approaches, designed spaces for public and private on a single site, and created an innovative design with blurred interior/exterior relationships.
The analysis would also consider the social and cultural context in which the building was created, including its role as a symbol of Japan’s post-war economic and technological development. This would involve a review of the building’s reception and influence in contemporary architectural discourse, as well as its potential for adaptive reuse in the future.
